Natasha has done it again with The Paris Seamstress, and like her previous two books, most of the story takes place in New York – that golden city where dreams can come true. But they really only mention WW2, they don't really sh. Many authors are using the dual time format, some more effectively than others. 3 out 3 people hated it. The similar aspects were...Paris in World War II and women focus characters....but, to me, did not come close to a satisfying read as was The Nightingale. I first came across Lee Miller when I was researching my previous book, The Paris Seamstress. Between her hating Alex, getting fired rapidly for her lack of self-control and sharp tongue, her rudeness to Lena, her overconfidence and rude comments. It’s all very well to have an opening scene, but you also need another 100,000 words or so! It wasn’t what I expected, but in all the right ways. An absolutely wonderful book. Speaking of catharsis and resolution, some of the main protagonists’ decisions are incredibly awful and result in tragedies which don’t seem to bother them too much afterward. Luckily the contemporary storyline captured my complete attention and meeting that deadline turned out to be easy to do. This book had none of those qualities. Nevertheless, I sat down to redraft, thinking that as I neared the place where I had become stuck, the solution would present itself. The dual narratives worked so well together, and I loved that I learned so much about fashion history.
